Sony ILME FX6 Camera Hire

In a nutshell

The newest kid on the block, camera wise, the Sony FX6 has proven massively popular with everyone on set from DOPs to shooting APs. Working with this fantastically compact camera and light weight camera is a joy. It brings some of the best bits of its larger brother the FX9 in ergonomics and form and elements from FX3 such as the same amazing sensor and autofocus, into one amazing camera. The FX6 can be rigged up or down to suit the filming environment. Stripped down its small and light enough to use on a DJI Gimble, and rigged with a shoulder mount and bars capable of carrying the Canon CN7 servo zoom lens and everything in between. Oh, and everything you need to do either come as standard with one of our kits!

The technical lowdown

The Sony ILME-FX6 Camera for hire from Mad Dogs Television comes as standard with everything you need to get shooting and we mean that. Our unique mixture of rigs, mods and adaptors have made this, we think, one of the best FX6 setups going. Easily adaptable and customisable everything is included to make the camera comfortably shoulder mounted, gimble mounted and more. With all our FX6s having a “loupe mod” to the standard viewfinder means you can use a normal loupe without any extra faff, it won’t droop, it won’t get in the way, it just works like you’d expect from an FX9 or FS7.

Speaking of keeping it simple, we’ve opted for Small Rig shoulder mounts and cages of our FX6s too. Inexpensive and impressively useful you’ll find may more threaded mounts for monitors, included V-Mount power options allowing for V-Lock battery use or powering on camera accessories. You’ll also find a right-handed Shape arm for the control grip, a quick release one too! It’s a mix but we think it’s the most efficient and user friendly when it comes to shooting.

High sensitivity, wide dynamic range

The full-frame 10.2-megapixel configuration enables high sensitivity with low noise throughout the camera’s sensitivity range by optimising the output signal from the sensor. Capture usable images in near total darkness with an impressive ISO expanded range up to 409600. The dynamic range is an impressively wide 15+ stops, for beautiful, true-to-life images without blown highlights. Together, the camera’s high sensitivity and wide dynamic range expand your creative freedom during shoots.

4K High Frame Rate 120fps recording

Full-frame 4K (QFHD) recording at up to 120fps with autofocus is possible thanks to the high-speed readout capabilities of the image sensor and the powerful BIONZ XR processor. Even at high frame rates, ultra-detailed images are captured using full-pixel readout without binning, for clear post-produced slow motion (up to 5x slower than real time) . The high-precision AF even allows beautiful full-frame bokeh to be achieved during slow motion shooting, for impressive creative scope.

Real-time Eye AF and Face Detection AF

For reliable focusing on people, especially in unpredictable shooting environments such as news gathering, event and documentary shooting, powerful Real-time Eye AF and Face Detection AF are built in. The real-time processing capability of the BIONZ XR image processing engine automatically maintains accurate eye focus on faces even in profile, looking up or down, or partially obscured – allowing you to concentrate fully on shot composition.

Variable ND Filter built in

The revolutionary electronic Variable ND Filter controls the opacity of the neutral filter seamlessly from 1/4 to 1/128ND to achieve unmatched creative control and fluidity. Unique to Sony, it can manually or automatically adjust exposure without affecting the depth of field or shutter angle, letting you achieve perfect exposure even moving between different environments such as from indoors to out.
