In a nutshell
These cameras have always commanded a loyal following from those owner operators who swear by them. Essentially this is a hybrid mirrorless stills camera with powerful video features. Its out performs an ILCE -a7siii on stills and gives it a good run for its money on video despite having a micro 4:3s sensor compared to a full frame sensor. Where most have found this camera to be particularly useful is for ‘In Car’ / onboard minicam rigs. The micro 4:3s allows for lightweight lenses and its compact body means it can give you that large sensor look in confinded spaces.
The technical lowdown
The GH5 II gains an updated ‘Venus’ processing engine from the full-frame S1H, allowing it to capture 10-bit 4K footage at 50 or 60 frames per second and promises improved autofocus. It retains the same sensor as before but now with an anti-reflective coating to better control flare. The LUMIX GH5M2 features a dynamic range of 12 stops with pre-installed V-Log L, while colour graders can utilise the same LUTs they use with V-Log.
