Laowa Periprobe F/14 E-Mount Kit
In a nutshell
The Laowa 24mm T14 2x Periprobe lens is a wide angle macro lens with a long barrel, that now features a 90° “periscope” tip. This lens comes with both straight and periscope front elements that can be easily changed. The periscope version also features LED lights near the front lens, it can be freely rotated, and is waterproof as well.
The technical lowdown
Just like the original Laowa Probe lens, the Periprobe lens features 24mm focal length with 85° FOV, 2x macro magnification, the so-called “bug-eye perspective”, and LED lights around the front element. The lens still features the same manual aperture available between T14 and T40. There are certain types of shots that were previously quite difficult (or required special rigging and quite a lot of space) with the straight probe lens, such as “side shot”, “tilting”, “staying close to the floor”, or “looking up & down”. With the Periprobe lens, these types of shots should now require much less space and should be easier to perform.

Periscope Lens
The Periprobe lens can also rotate 360° along its axis (after unlocking the orientation ring by using the clutch mechanism). Thanks to this, users can include interesting “pan” movements in the clips. The tip of the Periprobe lens features one 1/4-20″ thread for mounting additional lights, accessories, props, or support mounts.
The lens barrel is 40cm (15.7″) long and the minimum focusing distance from the front element is 2cm. The lens weighs 770g (1.69 lbs) and the straight interchangeable barrel weighs 248g (0.54 lbs).
Optical Features
Bug-eye perspective- The lens is able to focus really close to the subject i.e. 2cm/ 0.8” at 2x magnification. In the meantime, it has a wider perspective i.e. 85° than other macro lenses to create a ‘Bug-eye perspective’.
2x Magnification- With 2x magnification, users would have higher flexibility to shoot subjects of different sizes. More details can be captured with higher magnification.
Deep depth of field- The Periprobe has a wider perspective than other telephoto macro lenses and the aperture range starts from T14 to T40; therefore, it would have a greater depth of field at close distances. It is beneficial when shooting wildlife and in a studio as more information of the background can be included.
Long & tubular lens barrel- The long and tubular lens barrel makes itself more accessible to different subjects. With the 40cm/15.7” long barrel, you could poke it into different tight spaces like tree holes, Lego houses, etc. Users could also stay at a safe distance from the subjects.
Waterproof front barrel- The front barrel of the periprobe is waterproof so users could make underwater shots without a housing to get unique shots that other lenses cannot do.
360° Rotation- Use the clutch mechanism to unlock the orientation ring for adjustment.
Interchangeable lens tube- Users could also switch the 90° periscope back to the 0° straight probe.
Threaded Tip (1/4 20)- The threaded tip allows for the mounting of accessories like lighting or provides an attachment point for stabilization.
