Craig Hookings

Apprentice, Runner, Tea boy!

About Craig

Craig Hookings; Affectionately christened “Dave” or “Mini Craig” by the Mad Dogs crew as we simply have too many Craig’s nowadays.

Craig started an apprenticeship with Maddogs Television in September 2018. We first encountered Craig when he joined us for a one week work experience stint in July 2017. He clearly impressed as within that week Craig gained his first Broadcast TV credit as a studio camera operator! Aged 15! It was a locked off wide shot, but he nailed it.

Just over a year later, Craig joined the Maddogs staff ranks as an apprentice. He continues to learn and develop his television production skills each day. Craig also makes a blinding cup of tea.

Craig has quickly become a vital member of the warehouse team here at The Dog House. Younger and taller than all of us, Craig will no doubt have a very successful career in the television industry. Craig turned 18 in April 2020 and is available to hire as a runner.

Personal Profile

I was amazingly lucky to get a broadcast camera assistant credit on my first day of work experience at Maddogs. Pretty cool right? I got to man a Sony 4300 studio camera on James Martin’s Saturday Morning. It just so happened that Maddogs were filming this for this series for the same five days that I was on work experience, to put it simply, the timing couldn’t have been better. That was 3 years ago when I was 15 and in year 10 at school.

After I finished school, I needed to come up with something that I was going to go forward with. Having worked with Maddogs already the year before, I must have made an impression as Martin put in the work and was able to set up an apprenticeship here for me, and here we are now!

I own an extremely fast 50cc moped that I’ve had to get repaired twice in one year, but not to worry! At least I haven’t broken down on the way to work due to the fuel gauge not working and running out of fuel! Oh wait, yeah, I have actually, in late 2019 I passed my drivers license, the moped will never see the road again!

At 17 now, I go onto shoots with the Maddogs crew as a runner and occasional camera assistant, helping with anything that I can to make other people’s lives easier; whether that’s making thousands of cups of tea per day, or setting up pieces of kit for people, most likely both. I’m learning here at the office and on location when I can to train as a camera assistant and become a camera operator in the future.
